Why Affiliate Marketing is so great!
Back in November 2005 I had a 3 week break in the US. I traveled all over seeing some great cities and went to WebmasterWorld in Las Vegas where I met an old uni friend, I spent little time at the conference instead we just had a great time partying.
When I got back I decided I really quite liked this girl and I wanted to go live in America for a while to see if things could work out between us. So I did just that, booked my ticket a few days after getting back to England, after celebrating Christmas & New Years I took my flight to Seattle.
I worked off my laptop during the time I was there, I wouldn’t say it was amazingly productive, but I managed to keep maintaing my earnings for the six months I was Stateside.
In March I took 3 weeks off and cycled across Mexico in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support barely checking my email and doing no work. Everything survived, that was good news. Even I made it back just! I spent another 3 months in the US and moved in with my girlfriend.
In the summer my girlfriend & I decided we wanted to move together to England, so we did just that, renting a house on a short term lease.
I proposed in September, we got engaged whilst on a road trip in Europe (Ulm, Salzburg, Sedan, Epernay) with plans of a wedding in August 2007.
Unfortunately there were unforeseen problems with my fiancee getting a work permit, whilst she was educated to Masters Degree Level in here profession and fully qualified to work there, it didn’t carry over properly to the UK, so she had trouble with anyone offering her a job with a work permit. A position she was offered was excellent, but for only an initial six months and no work permit. We decided it was an opportunity not to be missed and that should take it anyway and we would solve the work permit issue ourselves. So we upped and moved again to be near where she would be working.
On 27th December we were back in Las Vegas this time with our families and got married at the Wynn Hotel (very nice affair, no Elvis or drive through). The next day we picked up our marriage certificate, flew to LA to the consulate to collect her visa, then to Seattle to celebrate New Years and back to the UK so she could start work on the 4th Jan. We were on such a tight time deadline that the whole thing was planned with military precision and fortunately went off without a hitch.
We are still having a ceremony in the Summer and also a party in Portland, Oregon (where the wife is from) to celebrate properly with our friends and family. The venue is England is a National Trust building called The Vyne (see pic below)

We are currently living in the Midlands and I have a desk again! With two monitors with an actual PC. Productivity has soared compared to the laptop and actually just being settled. I can go to get2gethers again and everything. So hopefully see you soon!
What other job can I get that kind of freedom & maneuverability?

Congratulations on getting married mate! I had no idea. Wish you and ‘Mrs Kandevil’ lots and lots and lots of happiness.
What an exciting life you seem to live compared to mine which doesn’t involve much other than sitting infront of a computer churning out Press Releases and writing code
Ian, I hope to get the chance to meet up with you at some stage this year and congratulate you in person.

Very interesting read that stirred up copious amount of envy from myself.
I’m trying to get into the affiliate marketing game again, this more more determined than ever. I am playing the automation game this time. Putting my programming skills to use by manipulating the various APIs out there.
I’d like to ask you, if I may, how did you get on the road of Affiliate Marketing, and what’s made you successful?
